| The Love of Money |
Contrary to popular belief, it is not money that is the root of all evil.
Rather, Many have accumulated wealth in an honest manner and have not been led to evil. It is the obsession with wealth or the love of it that directs one toward evil. |

JUST vs UNJUST gain |
Wealth is created when man applies labor to natural resources. The sinful nature of unredeemed man, however, tempts us to achieve wealth through a process called plunder or, as the bible calls it - "unjust gain." That is, we want wealth without having to work for it. This is the reason why "get-rich-quick" schemes have such appeal and are so heavily promoted. |
| BARTER - A system of just exchange |
In the absence of money goods and services are exchanged through a system of barter. Each exchange involves the transfer of a good or service having specific value to the parties involved. In other words wealth created by each is transferred from one to the other by mutual consent. Both parties to the trade have received something of value from one another. |
| The Function of Money | Money is a simple, portable, medium of exchange by which the exchange process is expedited. It is the means by which goods and services are able to flow freely from one person or entity to another. As a substitute for the transfer for the actual product, however, money, itself, must have the equivalent value for the item exchanged. If it does not, the person receiving the money is being shortchanged or cheated. In other words, without intrinsic value (value within itself), we no longer have something that fulfills the definition of money. |
| MONEY - the definition |
Money, by definition, is a unit of measure and a store of value. To qualify as money it must be BOTH. When you buy a 1 pound can of coffee you purchase a measure (pound) of value (coffee). What would be your response if you opened the can and found it filled with a pound of sand? You would have received your "measure" but not your "value." |
